Three seniors sign intent to play college sports

Megan Kelley ('10) formalizes her commitment to play tennis at Hamilton College next year, as Athletic Director Casey Jones looks on.

Three seniors participated in the Feb. 3 national signing day sponsored by National Collegiate Athletic Association.

In a ceremony in the Upper School Commons, Max LaBerge (’10), Natalie Powell (’10), and Megan Kelley (’10) signed documents that signify their intent to play sports at specific colleges next year.

Max LaBerge (’10) is headed to Williams College in Williamstown, Mass. to run cross-country, indoor track, and outdoor track. Williams College is a Division III school known for being academically tough. LaBerge is most nervous about the academics in his college.

“I’m most excited to get to know the team and the area. Williams College has a beautiful campus with great hills and trails that I can’t wait to explore,” LaBerge said.

Natalie Powell will play Division I soccer at St. Mary’s College in Moraga, Calif. Powell decided to go to St. Mary’s because it is a good fit for soccer and academics. Also, it has a good kinesiology program that interests Powell, who wants to go into physical therapy.

“I’m a little nervous because the team has three freshmen goalkeepers coming in next year, so it’s going to be a fight for the starting spot. I need to get into really good shape so that I can beat them,” Powell said.

Megan Kelley is going to Clinton, N.Y. to play Division III tennis at Hamilton College. Kelley decided to go to Hamilton because she did an overnight stay there with one of the girls from the team and got a really good vibe from it. She applied for early decision and was accepted. Kelley is most nervous being so far away from home and her family, but she is excited for the new experience.

“I think that it will be really cool going there. It will be a whole new experience with different people,” Kelley said.
